My Lucky Day!
I was battling whether or not I should go to Starbucks to relax and read. I'm glad I did. T-Mobile is offering free WiFi till October 31st, due to the fires that have been destroying our beautiful Southern California land. Yes, folks you read it right...T-Mobile is offering free WiFi at select Starbucks locations. Stop my heart!

Grace
I don't even know if this is the right word for this, but I can't help to feel that's what happened. Last week I purchased 10 pizza's from Domino's; the total amount was $88.36. This morning when I checked my bank account I noticed that Domino's charged me $93.36. That's a $5 unauthorized transaction. Now, I know what you must be thinking right now..."Lucas, it's only $5!" Yes, your absolutely, but the fact that the Domino's driver took it upon himself to write in $5 in the tip section of the receipt is unacceptable to me. Principles my friends...it's all about principles.
Now on the grace part. I really had no intention of wanting the money back but I did want retribution. If any pizza delivery driver is allowed to be left off the hook because it's only $5 here and $10 there, where do we draw the line. I showed grace today by not making a big deal about it. I must confess that when I'm screwed out of money (regardless of how little it is) I get a little ticked. I become something my students should never be able to witness. Today, I was calm, collected and pointed out an error with love. Hopefully the young man in question keeps his job.

Question of the Week
The very problem of teenage obesity is effecting the very nature of how students respond to programs; have you ever had a student no attend an event because there was too much walking or running, and that HALO 3 sounds better? The question of the week is based upon two trends 1) obesity and 2) guys wearing girl pants.
Here's the question: how can the students (guys) of today in all their glory and obesity, wear girl jeans? If today's teens are too fat to do anything, how do they get away with girl pants? I hope this trend ends soon!
for those who practice the quaker method of humor: THIS IS A JOKE QUESTION!!!! Get over it!

God is raiding your closet!
Great video...only thing is I KNOW people like the guy in the suit! Don't tell me flip-flops are insulting to Jesus. If God's more concern about the way we dress than the condition of our hearts, or even better, our relationship with Him, then I must be reading His holy word incorrectly. It's a proven fact that God is insulted by the fact that your shirt is wrinkled on Sunday (sarcastic comment #1)!

Sandwich Review #1

Today I tried out a new sandwich place right here in downtown Riverside called "The Upper Crust." Before I continue I must confess how much I love sandwiches. Like some people crave chocolate, I crave sandwiches. Okay, now for the review.
Atmosphere
Being located on Main Street in downtown Riverside is a huge plus. The quaint atmosphere was very inviting and friendly. The staff was extremely courteous and friendly. I sat outside (it was such a nice day) and basically relaxed.
Food
I ordered a tuna salad on wheat with a side order of potato salad and a medium ice tea. Okay, let's chat about the sandwich first. The tuna tasted fresh and the fixings (sprouts, cheese, mayo, mustard, etc.) were crisp and delightful. The bread was your typical wonder bread style and taste. Although the sandwich was nothing to write home about it was not a terrible sandwich. If forced to eat one again, it wouldn't be a sin. Now for the potato salad. I love potato salad and pretty much spoiled by liking the best potato salad out there. The potato salad at the Upper Crust was terrible. It had no taste, even after three packets of pepper and salt. I would go with another choice for a side (pasta, side-salad, etc.) The portions were conservative, but one didn't feel as though they needed to stop by In-&-Out to fill the gap. Overall the food was not bad, but (again) nothing to write home about.

embarrassing
I just coughed and let out a loud fart here in Coffee Roasters. People are now looking at me. How do you walk away from from something like this without being embarrassed?
Short term memory loss
So, I'm sitting in a place called coffee roasters. I waited about 10 minutes to order my iced mocha. I paid and walked back to my table and continued on my work. After about 10 minutes, I heard no swishing from the machine, or ice being ripped from the cooler. Nothing. I look over and the guy is standing behind the counter reading a magazine. Now, explain to me how a person forgets an order that quickly? The place was not packed, except for a man working on his laptop in the back. How could he forget that easily? I find that to be something that a gerry would do, but a 20 something. Anyway, I walked up to ask about my order and right he asked me "what can I get started for you?" I told him that I already paid and was waiting for my drink. He then looked at me as if I were lying then realized about that iced mocha drink order lingering in the back of his mind. He made my drink and gave me a large for the delay. Funny.

Why I'm in ministry
Last night I talked about gifts, faithfulness and serving God; you know the usual stuff. However, I tried my hand at on stage mathematics. Yeah, I tried to figure out the whole minas deal out of Luke 19:11-27. My figures were way off. What a humbling experience it is when a middle school student comes up to you at the end of the program to give you the correct figure, but thanks you for trying. That's why I'm in ministry (not to mention other things).

My Weakness
I have this one weakness that I am really unwilling to rid myself of. Books! I love absolutely love books. I spend too much money on books. I can spend hours at the library, bookstores, watching movies about books. For example, remember that part in Disney's Beauty and the Beast where the Beast shows Bell the enormous library that he gave to her as a gift? Yeah, I wet myself over the cartoon library. Can you imagine owning a library like that? Okay, now that I have announced my freaky side, any comments can be now recorded.
(please note: the term "wet" is in conjunction with urinating not something else. You're dirty!)

Why I'm afraid of Josh Griffin
So I have this new thing going on on my "myspace" profile. I basically choose 16 people to be placed upon my "favorites" list. Josh Griffin who by far is my favorite podcast celebrity has made the number five spot. I recently read (on a mutual friends myspace profile) that Josh is trying to make my top 8. Now, what scares me about this is the fact that Josh is (from what I understand) rather handy with the computer. My fear is this, he will somehow change my favorites (as a joke of course) to show my "top 8" and he will be number 1!!! If he does this I will buy him a chick-Fil-A lunch.

Funny Conversation II
This is a conversation I had with a junior higher today:
Jordan- "hey Lucas, did you know that if you eat your boogers, you're eating human skin!"
Me- "what?"
Jordan- "Yeah, basically boogers is dust and dust is made up of human skin...SO we're really eating human skin when we eat our boogers."
Me- "so by eating our boogers we become cannibals?"
Jordan- "What?"
yeah, and this was an 8th grader....too funny!

Funny Conversation
Tonight my small group had a really funny conversation. Before we got started, we somehow started talking about Pomeranians (you know that little furry football with legs). Then it became Polynesian Pomeranian, then it became Polynesian Pomeranian dancers that do the dance you can not do. I am still wondering how we started talking such things... the funny things that 8th grade guys can come up with.

Five things About Me!
This is my opportunity to be a little selfish and talk about me. Here are five things that most people don't know about me. You should feel privileged if you know a few.
- When I'm quite, it means that I'm thinking, analysing or daydreaming. It never means that I am angry.
- I hate turkey stuffing, or anything of the sort. I will puke if forced to eat the stuff.
- I am a medieval buff. I own a few swords and have taken sword lessons before.
- I am an hypocondriact. I fear disease!
- I can not dribble a basketball down the court. I can only dribble at a static position.
